EU transport – BGL, FNTR, NLA report issues
The leaders of the common road transport office of BGL, FNTR and NLA first met members of the European Parliament, and then the general director of the the European Commission's General Directorate Move, to discuss key issues in road freight transport.
As the company reports, they highlighted the need for a more practical approach to the transition to zero-emission vehicles, calling for technological neutrality and a greater role for renewable fuels such as biogas and HVO. The associations stressed the lack of charging infrastructure and green electricity, urging an early revision of EU regulations regarding heavy industrial vehicles to allow market adaptation.
They also raised concerns about fair competition and enforcement of mobility rules, while calling for better monitoring of driver working conditions and targeted inspections. To address the driver shortage, they proposed easing access to the profession while maintaining EU standards.
Florence Berthelot (FNTR, pictured), Erik Østergaard (NLA, pictured) and Professor Dirk Engelhardt (BGL, pictured) stated that the discussions resulted in “positive signals from EU decision-makers,” but the associations stress the need for continuous progress. (js)
