Germany, France, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands account for 68% of the pharmaceuticals trade in the EU-27, according to a recent report by Logista Freight.
The study analyses intra-European trade flows in a sector moving 3.3 million t annually, with a market value of over EUR 250 billion. The main corridors include exports from Ireland to Belgium, Germany to the Netherlands and the Netherlands to Germany. 15 of the 20 leading origin and destination points are located in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and France, indicating a centralised trading structure.
Finished pharmaceutical products represent nearly two-thirds of sector movements. Road transport dominates, accounting for more than 93% of pharmaceuticals logistics in the EU.
The report also provides country-specific profiles detailing export and import volumes, key partners and transport modes used, offering an overview of European pharmaceuticals logistics. (js)
