Ethiopia banks on rail for livestock transports
The Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway Share Company (EDR) has completed its first-ever shipment of livestock from central Ethiopia to Djibouti ports on the Red Sea.
The new offer will further diversify the 752-km railway's transport services between the two countries, EDR said on Facebook. It will enhance railway’s role in facilitating Ethiopia’s exports to the international market, in addition to its shipment of imported goods to central Ethiopia through Djibouti. The Ethio-Djibouti railway through Adama, a city in central Ethiopia, will also help reduce traffic congestion. (ben)
