Equipment enhancement at ICTSI's Lae terminal
Lae (Papua New Guinea)-based South Pacific International Container Terminal (Spict), a subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI), recently took delivery of three new hybrid rubber tyred gantries (RTGs).
The equipment is part of the ICTSI Group’s ongoing programme to strengthen and enhance overall operational efficiency at the container terminal. This investment of over PGK 15.6 million places Spict ahead of its 2022 commitments and 50% above the initial agreed outlay on operational efficiency improvements.
With a 41 t lifting capacity, the RTGs, running on diesel and electric power, are expected to go into service this month (March). The 16-wheel cable reel RTGs can stack one over five containers high and six containers wide, including the truck roadway. (kd)
