Emirates banks on Irish cargo traffic
Just months before Brexit, Dubai-based Emirates Skycargo announced that it carried close to 10,000 t of Irish exports from Dublin in 2018. Each of the twice daily B777 flights between Dublin and Dubai offer up to 25 t of cargo capacity. Last year, 35% of Emirates Skycargo’s Irish export cargo was comprised of food items, while pharmaceuticals accounted for more than 2,000 t of cargo.
Since launching in Ireland in 2012, Emirates has carried more than 50,000 t of cargo out of Dublin, making the airline the number one carrier for air cargo from Ireland to the Middle East, Australia and China.
Emirates is currently developing Dublin as a gateway to North America for cargo traffic coming from Dubai and elsewhere in its network. (ah)
