Egyptair Cargo seems to be doing it again

One year after stopping shipping monkeys to laboratories, Egyptair has apparently gone back on its word, risking the spread of disease and depleting the world of an endangered species.

As the NGO People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) has learned, the African airline appears to have recently shipped approximately 500 long-tailed macaques from Mauritius to New York JFK, all bound for tests in laboratories.

Moreover, they were reportedly shipped from a monkey-breeding company that has been in the midst of an outbreak of tuberculosis, a highly infectious disease that monkeys have transmitted to humans.

Peta, Action for Primates, One Voice, and Abolición Vivisección have urged Egyptair Holding Company CEO Yehia Zakaria to honour the company’s promise. (ah)
