Eco ships for Ocean Yield
In South Korea, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction marked a milestone with the naming ceremony of two new ships commissioned by Ocean Yield, a Norwegian maritime asset investment company.
These 5,500 teu container vessels, ’Zim Danube’ and ‘Zim Ganges’, are part of a series of eco-friendly ships ordered after a major shareholder change in August 2021.
Valued at USD 270 million, this contract signifies HJ Shipbuilding & Construction's re-entry into the market, with orders received for a total of ten eco-friendly container ships ranging from 5,500 to 9,000 teu.
Additionally, the company secured a construction contract for two 9,000 teu methanol-powered container ships with significantly lower emissions, reducing carbon by 25%, nitrogen oxide by 80%, and sulphur oxide by 99% compared to conventional vessels. (pb)
