Eco-friendly railcars for coal transports
US rail specialist Intramotev has finalised an agreement with Iron Senergy to provide three Revolt railcars for operation on its 27 km private rail. The railcars will transport coal produced by Senergy’s Cumberland coal mine to its Alicia harbour facility in Western Pennsylvania.
This will be the world's first deployment of self-propelled battery-electric railcars in a traditional freight train, using regenerative braking and battery technology, the company said. The new technology will reduce diesel consumption from locomotives, resulting in lower costs for rail operators and reducing emissions impact from rail operations. (ben)
