East-West Gate to handle up to 1 million containers
Europe's largest onshore intermodal logistics terminal opened in Fényeslitke, Hungary, near the Ukrainian border. The East-West Gate (EWG) can transload containers between standard and wide gauges and between trains and trucks. The terminal can handle up to 1 million 20-foot containers per year.
EWG also has a significant capacity for the transhipment of agricultural products, hence it could soon become the largest rail hub for Ukrainian food exports. The first train carrying Ukrainian agricultural goods recently rolled into the terminal.
EWG has a total of 10 km of standard and wide-gauge railway track, a concrete pavement for road transport and container storage as well as a temperature-controlled warehouse. (ben)
