Easa safety guidance for Russian airspace – an update

Following the downing of flight MH17, the EU established a ‘EU Conflict Zone Alerting System’ to provide consistent advice to airlines.

To ensure maximum flight safety in Russia’s ongoing illegal invasion of Ukraine, the new ‘Conflict Zone Information Bulletin’ of the European Union’s Aviation Safety Agency (Easa) replaces and broadens the scope of the recommendation regarding Russian airspace previously outlined in CZIB 2022-01R10.

It advises against operating in the affected Russian airspace west of longitude 60° east, at all flight levels. No EU airlines currently fly to, from or over Russian airspace. However, a number of other carriers continue to do so. The recommendation also applies to foreign carriers that have received safety authorisation from Easa. (ah)
