E-truck covers 500 km on one battery
In Lucerne (Switzerland) the four partners – Friderici Spécial, Avesco Rent, Galliker Transport, the Designwerk Group / Futuricum – recently presented two fully electrified tractor-trailers. The four parties were unified by their plans to build a zero-emissions truck.
Now two newbuilds that can cover 500 km with one load of a 900 kWh battery have been completed and the first units have left the production line for deployment with Friderici Spécial and Galliker Transport.
Adrian Melliger, the managing director of the Winterthur-based Designwerk Group, in which Volvo has held a majority share since March, expressed his satisfaction. “Thanks to the installation of 900 kWh batteries we’ve managed to increase the radius of action in the logistics field, and enabled users to carry out particularly energy-intensive applications, such as heavy and special transports.”
The fully-electric tractor units can only operate on the roads thanks to exceptional authorisation from the Swiss federal roads office Astra. The authorities approved the special construction and deployment of the vehicles, especially their additional length of 1 m and a 2 t increase in weight, needed to preserve the truck’s payload with four batteries on board.
The Friderici special truck is deployed to transport rented units between Avesco Rent branches. This internal transport will therefore be completely carbon-neutral, which will reduce the entire network's carbon footprint.
The new vehicle will be on the road in Switzerland five days a week. Every evening, the trucks will return to Avesco Rent’s headquarters in Puidoux, in the canton of Vaud, to be re-charged with green electricity in about 2.5 hours. (cd)
