E-trailers also for linehaul traffic

Deploying e-trailers in land transport may save between 24% and 55% of fuel, as a field test conducted by DB Schenker, Tailer Dynamics and Krone in France showed.

For the trial, the diesel consumption of a semi-trailer system was compared with a conventional trailer and an e-trailer. The M300 e-trailer dynamically supported the diesel tractor over the entire test route and controlled the electrified axle in real time.

The test demonstrated that the total consumption of electrical and fossil energy and thus the savings in diesel fuel can be precisely predicted. According to DB Schenker, the trial clearly shows that e-trailers can be a valid option for linehaul traffic in addition to last mile deliveries. (ben)
