E-sail technology set to cut costs and emissions
The Amasus-owned “Eems Traveller” will dock at the port of Hamburg during the maritime trade fare SMM 2024 to be held early next month. The ship features Bound4Blue’s e-sail technology, a wind assisted propulsion system (WAPS) designed to cut fuel use and emissions.
The ship’s two 17 m high suction sails will demonstrate the potential of wind power to make maritime transport more sustainable. The initiative highlights the increasing focus on alternative energy sources in shipping, amidst tightening regulations and industry push for greener practices.
The fare will provide an opportunity for industry stakeholders to see the technology in action and discuss its future applications. (pb)
