E-locos to expand service portfolio
Fenniarail has ordered two Vectron electric locomotives from Siemens to replenish its fleet, which is currently working at full capacity. The new units will enable it to expand its route and shift offering for existing and new customers, the Finnish carrier said.
Delivery is scheduled for the beginning of 2026. The four-axle electric locomotives can pull an over 2,000- t train at a higher average speed than diesel engines. For operating on non-electrified tracks, the Vectron is equipped with a “last mile” system, which includes a diesel unit. (ben)
