E-Cargo bike runs pilot test
Hermes, founded in 1972 as a delivery service for Otto Versand, is testing cargo bikes for last-mile delivery in Leipzig and Dresden (Germany). For manufacturer Citkar, the aim of the pilot test is to bring a cargo bike tailored for the CEP industry to market.
"Especially in cities like Leipzig and Dresden with their high traffic volumes and large number of delivery stops, cargo bikes are simply a perfect addition to parcel delivery," explains Martin Jugel, manager last mile of the Leipzig area at Hermes Germany.
Citkar’s "Loadster" model is equipped with e-bike technology, extended with modules from the automotive sector. With its modular superstructures such as cool boxes and additional trailers, the cargo bike meets a whole range of the demands placed on commercial vehicles.
The cargo bike, which can be driven without a driving licence, reaches speeds that are difficult to achieve by car in large city centres. (cd)
