Dwell times in Europe on the rise


Chicago-based intelligence provider Four Kites has reported that ocean dwell times for exports and transhipments in Europe have increased from mid-February to mid-April. Currently, dwell times are up by 10% and 22% for exports and transhipments, respectively.

 

Especially in Eastern Europe, dwell times remain high compared to the rest of Europe, with the 14-day average ocean dwell time at 9.9 days on 10 April (up by 13% compared to mid-February). There have been some signs of recovery over the past week, as dwell times have fallen by 5% week-on-week.

 

Dwell times in Northern and Western Europe have grown over the past week, by 5% and 8% respectively, week-on-week. At the port of Rotterdam (as well as in nearby Antwerp and Bremerhaven), Four Kites has seen increases in ocean dwell time for exports, where the 28-day average ocean dwell time grew by 6% week-on-week. The 28-day average ocean dwell time for exports is now up by 29% compared to the beginning of February. (sh)
