Duvenbeck switches to biogas
Duvenbeck will be using biogas as its energy source for its site in Saarbrücken (Germany), where it provides logistics services for the automobile supplier ZF. Inter-factory transports will be carried out with battery-powered trucks, reducing short-distance transport emissions.
The company had to devise another solution for long-haul deliveries, however. Obtained from agricultural waste and other sources, the biogas will be used for 40 of Duvenbeck’s vehicles.
The company switched to liquefied natural gas back in 2019, which cut emissions by a fifth. The new fuel can achieve a reduction of up to 90% for CO2 and nitrogen oxide levels, and biogas trucks are only half as loud as those running on diesel fuel.
ZF currently uses the site for manufacturing automatic car gearboxes and is gearing up for the future production of EV drive systems. (mk)
