Duisport scores in key segment
The major European inland port and hub duisport witnessed segmental growth in a difficult year 2020. Container handling went up by 5% 4.2 million teu (4 million teu in 2019), a new record mark.
With a share of around 55%, container handling is the first goods segment in duisport. The whole group handled almost 59 million t of goods in 2020, 3% less than in the previous year. (2019: 61.1 million t).
The drop occurred in bulk cargo, the politically stressed reduction in coal demand. Rail-based freight traffic with China grew by about 70% during the past financial year. The expansion of connections to Poland in the trailer business also contributed to the positive development.
CEO Erich Staake expects further impulses from the new customers that have settled in the port, particularly DSV and Maersk in logport VI. (cd)
