Duet for ten LNG vessels
A new agreement has been concluded between Haifa-based ZIM Integrated Shipping Services and Seaspan Corporation, an owner and operator of containerships and a subsidiary of Atlas Corp.
Not long after the latter extended the lease terms for Cosco Shipping Lines of 17 containerships representing around 117,700 teu (see ITJ Daily of 29 June), Seaspan has now inked a long-term charter with monetary value in excess of USD 1.5 billion with ZIM. Ten 7,000 teu liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container vessels are involved.
At the beginning of the year, in February 2021, ZIM and Seaspan announced a long-term charter agreement for ten 15,000 teu LNG-fuelled vessels.
Bing Chen, chairman, president and CEO of Seaspan, commented: “Our growing partnership and the twenty LNG-fuelled newbuilds to date signify both ZIM’s and Seaspan’s commitment to carbon reduction and sustainable growth for our industry.” Clarksons Platou acted as ZIM's financial and professional advisor for this transaction.
