Dual-mode locos extend fleet
The German rail logistician ITL Eisenbahngesellschaft is taking delivery of two new Vectron dual-mode locomotives. The Siemens vehicles are combined mainline diesel and electric locomotives. Thanks to their dual drive, they can be used on electrified and non-electrified railway lines, which saves energy, CO2 and time, when line requirements change.
Last year the company, which belongs to the Captrain Group, already took delivery of four new EuroDual locomotives from Stadler Rail Valencia. The latest two new engines are a further step towards a more sustainable fleet. They replace pure diesel units and will haul trains carrying building materials, grain and oil, amongst other things.
