Dual-fuel technology stands test in Barcelona
Energy transition is the key word: the Port of Barcelona is completing pilot operations using LNG and CNG as alternative fuels throughout its maritime and intermodal supply chains.
The operations involve eleven partners and twenty-six trucks, which have been converted to a dual-fuel system. Twenty-five of these have been running on compressed natural gas (CNG) and one on liquefied natural gas (LNG) since mid-June 2018. They are used to transport containers between the port and the metropolitan area.
The measures comply with the Horizon 2020 action plans to improve air quality as well as Barcelona’s air quality improvement plan 2015-2018. The Port of Barcelona has ample LNG and CNG at hand, as it is the site of Europe's first ever main regasification plant. (kd)
