Driver facility for 120 trucks to open next year

DP World has broken ground on a new driver welfare facility at its Southampton logistics hub in the UK. Construction works are expected to take 40 weeks.

When complete, the GBP 15 million (EUR 17.5 million) facility will provide the drivers of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) with amenities including a restaurant, café, bathrooms, and showers, and will accommodate over 120 lorries with 24-hour security.

In addition, photovoltaics will be installed on the facility’s roof to generate solar energy in addition to the installation of a greywater rain collection system. The site for the driver welfare facility was leased by DP World from Port of Southampton operator ABP in January this year. (ben)
