Draught horse still lame
Cargo volumes at Moroccan airports are still far below the levels recorded before the outbreak of Covid-19. In 2022, eleven of the 21 gateways, at which the national airport authority Onda registered freight traffic, handled a total of 69,750 t of goods.
This was only 0.4% less than in 2021, but still 27% less than in 2019. Casablanca airport (CMN) accounted for the lion’s share of the total throughput, recording 63,900 t of cargo last year. This was 0.7% less than in 2021, but still 29% lower than in 2019.
In January the airports handled a total of 5,900 t of cargo, or 37% more than in January 2022. This was still around 18% less than in the same month of 2019. Casablanca handled about 5,350 t (+31% / –21%) in January 2023.
