DP World makes moves in Laos
At Laos’s first special economic zone, DP World is completing an acquisition and thus gaining access to the Savannakhet dry port.
Savan Logistics, a logistics provider in Southeast Asia, has been taken over by DP World. The company had been operating the dry port since 2016, from where it had access to the East-West Economic Corridor. This connected Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam to form a key location for regional cargo. In addition to the port itself, coming in at 140’456 sqm, there are around 23’000 sqm of warehousing and 11’000 sqm of bonded areas.
DP World is taking further steps to strengthen its presence in the region. It has recently announced several partnerships with ports across Malaysia and the Philippines. (mk)
