DP World hits vinyl milestone
DP World’s Bicester facility has shipped over 10 million vinyl records since its opening in August 2023, as the company has reported. The 270,000 sqft distribution centre, powered by semi-autonomous robots from Locus Robotics (pictured), handles over 70% of physical music and 35% of home entertainment products sold in the UK. The site supplies retailers such as Amazon, HMV, and more than 400 independent record stores.
E-commerce has also grown, with around 2 million units shipped directly to customers in 2024. Alongside vinyl, the warehouse distributed 13 million CDs and 8 million DVDs within its first year. "Their quick delivery and impeccable work has been a real driving force behind the UK’s much-celebrated vinyl resurgence”, said David Sharpe, COO at Universal Music UK. The company expects further growth in 2025 across all media formats. (js)
