Downturn, but no reason for concern
Even though the corona pandemic has continued to keep a firm hold on airports during the first weeks of 2022, the German Airports Association (ADV) expects the trend to reverse at Easter. In the cargo sector, volumes are down slightly for the first time in over a year, but they are still well above 100,000 t each week.
For Ralph Beisel, ADV CEO, this is no cause for alarm: "The seasonal decline in cargo figures at the end of January/beginning of February is directly related to the Chinese New Year, which is leaving its mark on global logistics. Airports are of an enormous importance for Germany’s economy and society, since they keep supply chains open and thus secure basic supplies. Here, the airports have rendered outstanding services, and not only in times of pandemic." (cj)
