Double switch in the Port of New York
Maersk and its affiliate Hamburg Süd will definitely be changing their terminals in New York. The companies are moving from Global Container Terminal (GCT) on Staten Island, New York, to APM Terminals (APMT) in Port Elizabeth, New Jersey.
GTC, which operates two Canadian and two US terminals, Staten Island amongst them, went to court to prevent Maersk and Hamburg Süd from moving out, insisting on contracts running till the year 2022.
Maersk Line, which has just celebrated 100 years of activities in the US in 2019, wants to concentrate its maritime activities in the Port of New York with its affiliate APM Terminals. (mw)
