Digital tool to find free truck parking spaces
Free truck parking spaces on the A61 motorway in the Rhineland–Palatinate (Germany) are now being registered on a digital platform. This system that monitors truck parking capacities is the first of its kind to be trialled in this German federal state. Bavaria is conducting the second of the two current pilot projects in the country.
Overall, 20 car parks with room for more than 1,060 trucks along the 200 km stretch of the A61 motorway have been integrated into the system. They account for more than 25% of all truck parking spaces in the Rhineland-Palatinate.
The system registers the actual number of parking spaces currently occupied. The federal state's land office for mobility enters the data into an electronic platform, from which drivers can download information about free truck parking spaces in real-time. (ben)
