Difficult conditions for combined transport

In 2023, the Swiss intermodal specialist Hupac transported around 975,000 road consignments or 1,866,000 teu in combined road/rail transport and maritime hinterland transport, around 130,000 consignments or 11.7% less than in 2022.

All transport modes in the group's Europe-wide network were affected by this downturn. In its core market - transalpine traffic through Switzerland - Hupac recorded a comparatively moderate drop of 7.6% to 540,000 road consignments.

The company commented that the combined transport sector was feeling the negative effects of a decline in the demand for transport services in Europe, price rises in the rail system that were not in line with the market and considerable quality deficits in Germany’s rail network. (ben)
