DFDS and Volvo launch new electric trucks
European Passenger and freight shipping company DFDS and Swedish manufacturer Volvo launched a new fleet of 20 heavy electric trucks in the Port of Gothenburg, Scandinavia’s largest port, on 3 March 2023. The plan is to put 125 of these trucks into service in 2023.
The use of the Volvo FM Electric model in the Swedish port represents a "massive step in the electrification of land-based transport in the port and the surrounding area," said Edvard Molitor, head of sustainability at the Gothenburg Port Authority.
These companies want to mark the transition for transports both on land and at sea. Moreover, as a key actor at the port, DFDS wants to create a green corridor between Gothenburg and Ghent (Belgium) by adding vessels with alternative fuels. (lh)
