DFDS acquires road haulier
Danish ferry operator DFDS is taking over the Northern Irish company McBurney Transport. The transaction price for the Ballymena-based company was just below GBP 140 million (USD 168 million).
McBurney Transport is one of region's largest haulage firms, with about 800 employees operating 400 trucks and almost 1,400 trailers. The completion of the deal is subject to regulatory approval of the relevant authorities.
Founded in 1965, the company covers the British Isles with eight locations: three in Northern Ireland, one in Ireland, three in England and one in Scotland. McBurney's core business is the transport of FTL and LCL trailers between Ireland and UK by road and ferry - one of its links to DFDS. (sh)
