Developments in Nigeria
As from tomorrow, 29 August 2020, Nigeria will again be open to air traffic. Based on the principle of reciprocity, only those airlines from countries that permit flights from Nigeria will be allowed to serve the airports of Lagos and Abuja.
Africa's most densely populated country (200 million inhabitants) closed its air space in March 2020 as part of the measures to contain the pandemic, in which 50,000 infected cases and around 1,000 deaths have been officially reported to date. Domestic flights were resumed in July.
Furthermore, Hadi Sirika, the minister of aviation, has announced that the federal government has finalised its plans for concessions for all the country's 31 airports. The concessioning process for the four largest airports (Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt) is already at an advanced stage. (ah)
