Decarbonisation to boost green jobs in maritime

According to the Global Maritime Forum, the decarbonisation of the maritime sector presents a major economic opportunity, potentially creating up to four million green jobs by 2050.

This shift is driven by the need for the industry, which currently produces 3% of global CO2 emissions, to meet new regulations requiring carbon reporting and reduction. The transition to e-fuels, particularly, demands significant infrastructure investments estimated at GBP 3.2 trillion, which would support the creation of jobs primarily in renewable energy generation, hydrogen production, and e-fuel production.

This development is expected to significantly contribute to global economic growth and the fight against climate change, with a notable number of jobs predicted to emerge in the Global South due to favourable conditions for green fuel production. (pb)
