De-icing pads to keep parcels moving at MEM
Federal, state, local and business leaders marked the completion of 3.3 million sqft de-icing pads at Memphis International Airport, home to FedEx’s largest air cargo sorting facility. The pads are large enough to de-ice twelve wide-body cargo aircraft simultaneously, which will help get goods where they need to be faster in this peak Christmas parcels season. The FAA invested USD 174 million to help make this project a reality.
“It’s important that families and businesses get the goods they need when they need them in the holiday and in every season,” said US transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, adding that “Memphis airport is the biggest air cargo hub in the country, and this innovative de-icing facility is one of the many ways we’re modernising the USA’s supply chains.” (cj)
