DB Schenker adds capacity in strategic location
The logistics service provider is setting up a new cross-dock terminal with an office building on more than 70,000 sqm in a strategically favourable location in Neunkirchen, Germany, by the end of 2024.
With 119 loading gates and 10,500 sqm of warehouse space, the new building will significantly enlarge capacity and improve performance. The central location in the federal state of Saarland in South-West optimises both the connection to DB Schenker’s land transport network and transfers to the neighbouring logistics centres.
Schenker reports that the expansion will shorten transit times for general cargo and partial/complete loads and increase security for the goods. In the new building, the company is investing in high standards of sustainability with DGNB Gold certification, thus preparing the site for an operation that guarantees an efficient use of resources and reduces the impact on the environment.
A photovoltaic system is being built on the roof of the terminal, which will feed ten charging points for electric cars and eight charging points for electric trucks, among other things. (ben)
