Cyber criminals looking for gaps, says MGI
Cyber scammers seek their opportunities especially during vacation time and on weekends, says Marseile Gyptis International (MGI). The software and security specialist recently pointed out that 30% of companies see an increase in cyberattacks during these times.
The most frequent scams relate to bogus vendor fraud (54%), cybercrime (50%, including 20% ransomware), other identity theft (43%), fake news regarding e.g. a president's nomination (42%), and fake news regarding customer service (35%).
The summer is an especially good time for attacks. Most companies operate with reduced staff and occasional temporary employees that come on board to re-enforce the teams during the summer months.
"Under these conditions, the weaknesses are more important simply because people are less cautious of the precautions they need to take in order to prevent a cyberattack," MGI says, and advises: "It is therefore essential to anticipate these attacks by informing your staff at all levels, and to train your temporary reinforcements, even if this seems expensive. The consequences of an attack would certainly be more costly." (sh)
