CSX launches double-stack rail transports

The service operates to and from the Helen Delich Bentley port of Baltimore, MD (USA). It enhances transport cost efficiency, increases environmental benefits and helps the port grow its business by about 160,000 containers annually.

CSX started its double-stack rail service on Monday 28 October 2024 after clearance improvements at rail bridges had been completed north of the Howard Street Tunnel. The upgrades include reconstructing the 129-year-old tunnel and 21 other locations to allow the operation of double-stacked container trains.

Some construction works are still ongoing. Until they are completed by 2026, the US class I railway will run the launched stack service to the Midwest on a temporary route. (ben)
