CSX invests in its Maryland rail yard
With the initiative, the US class I railway aims to increase capacity and safety at its facility in Cumberland, ML (USA), which connects the northeast corridor and midwestern territories. The project involves removing the hump and the hump tower from the yard, and placing additional tracks optimised for flat switching in the classification yard.
These changes allow the company’s team to assemble trains on two automated tracks while simultaneously moving other cars, effectively reducing car handlings, doubling production capacity, and ensuring faster and more reliable delivery of customer goods, CSX said. The railway plans similar projects at its yards in Ohina and North Carolina. (ben)
