CSX extends network in New England
CSX has completed the acquisition of Pan Am Railways. The takeover will expand the US class I railway’s reach into the rapidly growing Northeast region of the country. The completion of this transaction comes six weeks after CSX received regulatory approval. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Pan Am owns and operates a 1,930 km rail network and has a partial interest in the more than 965 km Pan Am Southern system. The regional railway’s network across New England has access to multiple ports and large-scale commodity producers.
The takeover augments CSX’s coverage in Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts and adds Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine to its existing 23-state network. (ben)
