CSX extends green fleet
The US class I railway is partnering with Wabtec to accelerate sustainable rail services to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 37% by 2030. An early adopter of digital rail technologies, CSX will be the first railroad to demonstrate Wabtec’s trip optimiser zero-to-zero system, an advanced technology that will allow CSX to start a train from zero km/h and stop the train automatically using various controls.
CSX will also revitalise its yard fleet with the first order for Wabtec’s Tier 4 switcher modernisation programme, which improves fuel efficiency by 20%, while reducing emissions by 90%.
Finally, the railroad will refit locomotives in its fleet with Wabtec’s new FDL advantage engine upgrade, which enable a further 5% reduction in fuel consumption. (ben)
