Criminals can't wait for restart of professional sport
While the professional sports leagues NBA and NHL in North America are working on concepts for resuming their playing seasons that were interrupted in March, smugglers are trying to benefit from the fans’ joyful anticipation.
At two airports, US customs and border control officers recently intercepted consignments from China that contained forged NFL “Super Bowl rings”.
On 20 May 2020, CBP officers in Louisville seized a shipment of 170 counterfeit championship rings from depicting the unauthorised use of copyrighted professional sports teams' logos from the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL.
If the rings were real, the appraised total MSRP of the shipment was USD 43,450 (EUR 39,750). Another shipment seized at Chicago ORD's mail facility on 27 April 2020 consisted of 35 counterfeit NFL championship rings with an MRSP of USD 350,000 (EUR 323,232). (ah)
