Crane simulator to boost port safety
Tees Dock has made a GBP 400,000 (EUR 460,000) investment in a full mission crane simulator designed to enhance the training and safety of crane drivers and port workers.
Manufactured by Globalsim, this simulator is the only one of its kind in northern England. It replicates Teesport's ship-to-shore cranes, rubber tyre gantry cranes, and mobile harbour cranes, allowing drivers to practice handling challenging scenarios in a safe environment.
The simulator can mimic various conditions, including high winds and equipment failures, while also focusing on hazard perception training. Moreover, it serves as a valuable tool for training new crane operators without disrupting live operations. This investment not only improves safety and training but also supports carbon emissions reduction efforts. (pb)
