Covid-19: more compensation for Swiss railways
The Swiss federal office for transport (BAV) has decided to take specials measures to ensure that railfreight companies remain financially afloat and functioning during the corona crisis. Specifically, the terms of business will be temporarily adjusted to lighten the load on transalpine railfreight traffic.
If the trains transport more cargo than planned, companies may apply for further compensation for the additional volumes. To avoid staff shortages, engine drivers and other staff with expired medical certificates may be deployed until further notice.
Operational checks and audits for safety monitoring will be temporarily suspended so that transport companies can full concentrate on keeping their operations going, the BAV said. (ben)
