Corpus Christi: record throughput in 2023
The port of Corpus Christi in Texas, USA, recorded a historic high in annual tonnage in 2023, surpassing 200 million t for the first time. The 203 million t throughput is 8.1% up from the previous year. A significant portion of this growth was due to a 12.5% uptick in crude oil exports, which totalled 126.1 million t.
The port also saw a 13.5% rise in agricultural commodities, reaching over 2.2 million t, and a slight increase in refined products to 42.5 million t. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) hit a record volume of 16.3 million t.
The port's ongoing expansion includes the Corpus Christi ship channel improvement project, with completion expected in early 2025, and developments in bulk and breakbulk cargo facilities. (pb)¨¨
