Coronavirus says goodbye to angels
With regret, Auckland Arts Festival has cancelled the outdoor aerial spectacle "Place des Anges". It was set to be performed at Auckland Domain during three days from today, 13 March 2020. The organisers called off the event coming from France because of major freight issues related to the coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent cancellation of air cargo flights worldwide.
Auckland Arts Festival chief executive David Inns said that freight has become a global issue, which has been changing daily with cancelled flights, reduced air cargo capacity and prices skyrocketing.
He added that the show was no longer feasible because "the cost of bringing the freight to New Zealand has escalated over the weeks to the point where it puts the future financial viability of the festival at risk." (ah)
