Conversion to e-trucks requires rethink
The BLG Group is testing the use of a Volvo e-tractor for inner-city truck deliveries in Falkensee near Berlin (Germany). The deployment of e-trucks would bring the BLG Group a big step closer to its goal of being climate-neutral by 2030.
However, there are hurdles to overcome before converting the entire fleet to electric trucks. For example, the use of a two-shift system requires dynamic route planning.
The e-truck used for the test can travel about 250 to 300 km in city traffic when fully loaded, which means that it must be recharged between the two day shifts. According to BLG, challenges also include the higher purchase costs of the e-models and the charging infrastructure. (ben)
