Contship Italia taking bull by the horns
In its 50th anniversary year, the operator Contship Italia has entered into negotiations with MSC for the sale of the latter’s 50% stake in CSM Italia Gate, the company that controls the Medcenter Container Terminal (MCT). MCT is the concessionaire of the container terminal activities in the port of Gioia Tauro, where MSC is already a partner and main customer.
In order to speed up the deal, Contship Italia has appointed a law firm to assist the process, and an independent financial advisor who will establish the correct value of the terminal activity and assets. MCT will continue to be fully operational during the forthcoming negotiations.
The Contship Italia Group, which created the terminal and ran it for the last 24 years, underlined the fact that it is fully committed to safeguarding employment levels there, so as to preserve the largest Italian container terminal’s value and its ability to compete. (cd)
