Contargo extends contract in Valenciennes
In the Hauts-de-France region, Contargo will continue to operate the Ports de l'Escaut container terminal near Valenciennes on the quay of Bruay-sur-l'Escaut/Saint-Saulve, after winning a Europe-wide tender for the project. The contract came into force on 1 January 2022 for a period of fifteen years.
The Escaut Valenciennes Conteneurs Terminal (EVCT), which went into operation in 2015, was already expanded for the first time in 2017 and a second time in 2021. Its handling capacity is now 140,000 teu per year.
"The location on the Canal Seine-Nord Europe will add even more value in the long term. We are pleased to continue our partnership with Contargo, which has been active at Valenciennes since 1996," said Bruno Fontaine, president of the association Syndicat Mixte Docks Seine Europe/Escaut (Scheldt).
With the contract extension, Contargo commits to further developing the container terminal and its multimodal transport operations. Contargo currently runs 25 container terminals in Germany, France and Switzerland, as well as other locations in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland. (sh)
