Container highs at SC Ports
South Carolina Ports (SC Ports) experienced significant growth in intermodal cargo in 2023. Inland ports Greer and Dillon both recorded historic container numbers, with increases of 26% and 55% respectively. This surge brought the rail movement of containers back to pre-pandemic levels, accounting for 23% of total marine container traffic.
Despite an overall 11% decline in teu and pier containers compared to the previous year, due to economic factors, SC Ports continued to invest in infrastructure, including the expansion of inland port Greer and the upcoming navy base intermodal facility. SC Ports also saw a 3% increase in vehicle handling and a 16% rise in cruise passengers. (pb)
