Confitarma mourns passing of shipping pioneer

Confitarma, the Italian Confederation of Shipowners, has reported the passing of Carlo Andrea Marsano at the age of 82. From the 1960ies – to the early 2020ies, Marsano held several mandates as member of the board of directors of the Confederation and the executive committee. He also served as chairman of the cabotage commission.

"He created the first ro-ro services with Sardinia, Confitarma president Mario Mattioli commented, "and he often said that his vessels shipped more than just goods", that they also "served, supported and took care of the transport companies". With his passing, the industry loses "an exemplary representative of an entrepreneurial generation which we can certainly consider as 'pioneers' of maritime transport."
